| Pikes Bottomless Pit Approach |
I climbed Pikes twice on the weekend. Saturday up the east face and Sunday on the north face up Rail Road Couloir. The east face has minimal snow and I never used crampons and probably didn't even need gators. The bottomless pit approach was certainly not the same walk in the park but I managed to get to the couloir from the main trail split about a mile past bar camp in 90 minutes without the need for snowshoes. Route finding was tricky in the middle but persistence paid off. Once in the past the destroyed car the couloir snow was excellent till 13,500. After that there simply wasn't any more snow. From there I scrambled on rocks to reach the summit then came back down the east face to get my tent at A frame.
