Tom & Sue Mt. Elbert 8-25-06
Sue and I have been doing some flat land hiking/trail running in TX (Palo Duro Canyon, Caprock and Enchanted Rock) but have only had one real mountain experience, South Sister near Bend Oregon (a great trip and the day I decided to propose to Sue).

We started the Elbert trip at 8AM, a bit late after a evening of Sushi in Avon. We made good time climbing, stopping for water at thirty minute intervals and taking time for the views. Weather and temp were great at the trail head but deteriorated as we climbed leaving use with some dramatic sky in our summit pictures but very little time at the top. We did get some sleet and thunder in the distance on the initial descent but the weather cleared and we finished with beautiful blue skies.

The 14ers.com site was fantastic, we were able to plan the trip and get to the trailhead without any trouble.

A special thanks to fellow hikers Pete and Preston who we met along the way. The Jeep ride at the trailhead was really appreciated.
