Wildflowers and goats galore from Stevens Gulch
Les and I bumped our way up to the trail head at 5:30

and were shocked to find a half dozen cars already there...on Monday. If you're into flora & fauna this is a great hike at this time of year.

The wildflowers were in peak bloom up to 12,000ft. Literally waves of paintbrush, fire weed, blue bells and others I don't know were every where.

There isn't much more I can ad to this report that isn't completely covered in Bill's route description. There's no guess work, you just follow the trail to the summit.

There was a CFI trail gang doing some trail maint. at the turn off to Torreys at 13,300. We ran into a bunch of goats at 13,700 on one of the switchbacks. They didn't care if we were there and ignored my frantic picture taking for next year's Xmas card. We had a grandiose idea of doing the Grays/Torreys combo, but to be honest, we just didn't feel up to it by the time we got to Grays. Plus it was just building up enough dark clouds that we used this as further rationalization to head down. Now I have a reason to come back and do the Kelso Ridge. We did descend to the Torreys saddle and picked up the Torreys cutoff back over to the main trail, saves about a 1/4 mile. When we got back to the TH, both parking areas were full and vehicles were parked down the road. I'm guessing over 100 people were up on the mountain(s) on a week day. I can't imagine what it's like on a weekend.
