Drove my 1992 Toyota Cressida to within 0.5 miles of the North Halfmoon TH. I‘d say most passenger cars should be able to make it that far.
Started hiking at 7am and made the summit at 10am. I got off route and ended up taking the old trail to the saddle below south massive. The new trail is much better, and really easy to follow. Lesson learned: if there are tracks across a snowfield, the person who left them may not have known where they were going.
The view of the elks was amazing
