Started the hike solo @ 9AM...car park very full for both Grays and Torreys trails. Weather started out great: No clouds but winds constant @ 10 gusting to 15-20 mph.
Great AM shot of Greys & Torreys Peaks
Cloud build-up already beginning to the NE after only 1 hour into hike.
Pictured is Kelso Mountain. Trail follows bottom right of mtn base to car park.
Snowfield of Torreys still has 1' - 2' depth, and single lane passable, when traversing to saddle for final ascent.
Author on top of Torreys Peak, with Greys Peak behind.
There were an abundant amount of small white butterflies on the peak, despite the continued westerly winds.
Notice developing cloud cover.
Great hike overall...all trails were passable; some loose and falling rock on upper trail before snowfield.
Sun was beating down...WEAR SUNSCREEN!!
Attempted to get Greys on same hike, but thunderhead cloud formations to East nixed that idea. However, many did make the ascent.
Total time for ascent 2-hr 45-min. Descent was 1-hr 50-min.
Again, thanks to all whom I met up and down the trails.
There is a freindship and comeraderie among complete strangers that materializes and vanishes without effort.
It's great that concern for fellow hikers, trail conditions, and the mountain exist to keep this an enjoyable, healthy, and FREE activity for all people to partake in.
