 Elbert - Southeast Ridge
This was a very mellow and pleasant hike on a nice trail. Starting at the lower parking lot (not the 4-wheel drive parking lot 800 feet higher) at 5:15, it took us 3.5 hours to reach the summit. There was virtually no snow on the trail - a total of 3 to 4 steps in snow were required, depending on your stride length. I highly recommend an early start, as we didn‘t see anyone on our way up and had the summit to ourselves - non to mention the weather benefits. This route provided fabulous views most of the way up. FYI, there is an established campground just below the South Mt. Elbert trailhead. This should be avoided due to the absorbitant fees associated with it. Instead, drive a short way up the 4-wheel drive road where you will find a number of free camping spots.
