 quandary main route
i hiked quandary on friday, up the main route. the trip took me five hours. the first mile was easy with a few snow patches on the trail. after that there is a large patch of snow that holds some knee deep areas. from there it was on the rocky path for a ways then the real snow patches showed up. the next snow patch was waist deep and not to packed making it a post hole hike for the next 100 yards. then it was a hike up to the next snow patch and so on till after you reached the ridge. the ridge was pretty gentle hiking. here i stopped to put on clothing to go to the top. the final ascent was mostly a boulder field till the last 100ft of elevation gain which was a snow field with gradual gain. the hike back down was fun if you choose to slide down the snow fields on your bottom and this also sped up the decent. overall it was a fun first fourteener for the year next up bierstat.
