Mt. Bierstadt - Mini Trip Report (06/05/2026) I was looking for a fun and rewarding adventure that would also be fairly relaxed, and Mt. Bierstadt checked the box for all of these things! I got to the parking lot a little later than usual (around 6:30am) and was on the trail soon after. The initial portion of the trail was fairly easy and led to some really nice early morning views. There were a good number of fellow hikers on the trail at this time, but nothing overwhelming/overcrowding. It wasn't quite sunrise, but the morning sky was still a very nice light level to be casted on the rolling mountainous terrain. Early morning light. Stream crossing early in the hike. Once I got to the steeper section, some of the runoff from the snow melt at the peak had frozen over and formed slick ice running directly down the middle of the trail. I ended up using poles and micro-spikes from then on out, and didn't have any issues with traction or post-holing. After a bit of a climb, and a snack at the plateau before the summit, I pushed up a partially snow-covered rock pile to reach the summit of Mt. Bierstadt. It was gorgeous weather, and the panoramic views in each direction were quite spectacular. Although Mt. Bierstadt isn't known to be an extremely challenging hike, I still very much enjoyed the reward at the top and hope to come back to do the Class 3 climb of Mt. Bierstadt and Mt. Blue Sky for a future adventure! View of the final push to the summit. Geo Marker near Mt. Bierstadt summit. Also of note - the drive to/from the hike was pretty awesome as well. It was neat to see my first ever pack of long-horned sheep walking along the road of Guanella Pass.
