CAÑON CITY, Colo., Aug. 7, 2025— The San Carlos Ranger District of the Pike-San Isabel National Forests & Cimarron and Comanche National Grasslands will be implementing logging operations on Trinchera Road near Blue Lake in Huerfano County. To ensure contractor and public safety during operations, Trinchera Road (Forest Service Road #436) and portions of the North Fork Trail (Forest Service Trail #1309) will be closed to public vehicle access, hiking and other recreational activities from Aug. 14, 2025, through June 30, 2026.

Hazardous windstorms occurred during the winter and spring of 2022, causing major damage to mature spruce and fir stands in the campgrounds and surrounding areas. The blowdown will be removed through logging operations, which will include use of heavy equipment. The project area spans approximately 93 acres near the Blue Lake campground area. Noise from logging equipment may be present in the project area.

Forest Order #02-12-03-25-12 and a map detailing the area closure can be found on our Alerts webpage. For questions regarding this closure order, please contact San Carlos Ranger District at 719-269-8500 or in person at 3028 E. Main St., Cañon City, CO 81212.
