#8 Centennial - Horseshoe Mtn, Peerless Mtn, and Mt Sheridan
#8 Centennial - Horseshoe Mtn, Peerless Mtn, and Mt Sheridan Finally got out for a new hike so kept it close and easy. Started at 630am from the 4 Mile Creek Trailhead. It is about 12 miles of dirt road driving to the trailhead. Plenty of parking and while any car can make it low clearance cars all park lower. I wanted to park lower but appears private land owners are starting to claim more of the areas around the road. The place I parked last time here had a clear No Parking sign now. But I parked at the trailhead and then walked down the road to Silver Horseshoe Dr to start the hike up Horseshoe Mtn first. First sight of Horseshoe Mtn. Since Im getting older and not as active any longer I gave myself plenty of time and started early expecting to hit the summit around 11am. Good news is the hike goes fast and I was hauling along able to double the speed I thought I might be at. Looking back down the trailhead still hiking up 4wd road but it ended here and now is just a normal Class 1 trail. Horseshoe Mtn Hit the saddle and turn left to Horseshoe. From dirt to rock but still easy peasy. Less than half a dozen hikers on this side of the mountains all day so if you want to avoid the crowds of Sherman just go this way! On the summit and if you go the south end of the large summit you can see this cool cabin. Looks like it was in good shape at one point with a nice front porch. Summit Views. Windows and seats built in the cabin as well. Summit Views. Heading back down Horseshoe the way we came. Next we hit Peerless Mtn which is that little ridge pimple looking bump in the middle of the saddle between Horseshoe Mtn and Mt Sheridan. Peerless is short and quick but gets a little rockier maybe could be Class 2 now instead of 1 but still ez pz. Theres a black lab and golden retriever pyrenees dog in this photo that both did the entire hike. Going down Peerless and looking up towards the last summit of the day Mt Sheridan. I did not intend to do this one but was ahead of my estimated time and weather was great! Plus my car was parked closer to the Mt Sherman/Sheridan trailhead than going back to Horseshoe. Looking back at Horseshoe and Peerless. Summit views on Mt Sheridan. Getting up was a little tiring after the other two summits today. It was the steepest part and rockiest going up Sheridan but the summit was all to myself for about 20 mins! Summit Views. Went down Sheridan to the Mt Sherman saddle and finally met up with all the crowds to hike out. Total time was 5 hours round trip loop. Thumbnails for uploaded photos (click to open slideshow):
