End of Season Red Peak Hike

Just wanted to share a fairly efficient GPX track of climbing Gore's Red Peak from Buffalo Mountain Trailhead.

Stats: 12.3 miles, 4,300 feet elevation gain over 400 feet of which are a regain on your way back, about 8 hours at moderate pace with a lunch break.

The trailhead is on a paved road easily accessible from I70.

Although this was our end of summer/fall season hike and there was some snow, we followed the summer trail except in places we decided to shortcut.

About 2.5 miles into the hike you pass Willow Creek Falls which are a popular hiking destination.

After the falls follow Gore Range Trail for another 2.5 miles

and then shortcut to Red Buffalo Pass.

From there just follow a reasonably nice, talus covered Class 2 ridge for 1.3 miles and 1,400 feet elevation gain to the summit.

On your way back you can save some time and mileage by going straight down a scree/talus/tundra not overly steep slope.

Regain Gore Range Trail after dropping 2,000 feet in about 1.3 miles.
