I first fell in love with summits and the experience of reaching them in Caledonian mountains-- northern Appalachia, the Adirondacks. Broad swaths of anorthocite, carpeted in moss and ferns, sweet-blooded deciduous trees and terpene-rich conifers.

The Norwegian peaks are recognizable as kin to those of the northeastern US. Similar build, similar feel, just differently dressed. Delicate microflora, quirkier broadleaves, spindlier needle-bearers. Skirts of sky-blue ice, minutely beaded bone-white snow.

The Baden-Wurttemberg advertising campaign stickers (lower left) make me want to set things on fire.

Rob, yes, when 8,000 feet requires some 5,000 gain in a couple miles, definitely takes some effort! I'm going to catch up on TRs this year for other country highpoints I got to visit last year.
