Its an easy 2wd road to the trailhead near the damn. But I drove the sports car and its too low for even the easy dirt roads so I parked at Quandary trailhead and got some extra miles in today! I did not realize Quandary parking says reservations only? Thankfully I was not ticketed but I have a feeling I would be in peak summer.
At the lower Blue Lakes Trailhead near the damn you can see up ahead.
Nice morning photos
Above the damn there is a small trail sign to trun you toward Fletcher Mtn.
First sight of Fletcher Mtn In the basin now it starts to get steeper and boulder hoping. Go up the brass colored gully. It looks like loose rocks but its not that bad at all. Brass colored gully Looking down at the trail from the top of the brass colored gully. Looking up at the peak. From here there are two cairned trailed. One that goes left of the big rock in the middle of the pic and one that goes to the right. I took the right up and the left down. Left is nicer. Looking back at the south corner of the gully where the trail goes to the brass colored gully to get back down. Going up to the right Looking back Cairns on the way up here and there
Cairns go up to the light colored rocks at the top. Getting atop the upper basin for the final pitch to the summit. Looking back
Rock hoping Hitting the ridge right below the summit. Summit views Headed back down tot he start at Quandary Mtn Trailhead. I thought about going up and over the West Ridge of Quandary and then getting back to my car that way. But my left knee was bothering me and did not have full range of motion so did not want to risk injury. Going back down the brass colored gully there are two skiers headed up to get a few turns in on a small snowfield. I guess they need to be sure they ski once a month every month of the year. One has a 80 month streak and the other is in his 70 months straight skiing at least once every month. Kinda crazy. Looking up at Quandary Mtn Saying goodbye to Fletcher Mtn. Took 3 hours up with a bum left knee. Took 2 hours down with a bum right ankle. Lol Im not getting old yet Im just poorly conditioned! Upper Blue Lakes Lower Blue Lakes The damn on the way out. Waterfall along the road back to Quandary parking lot.
