 San Luis Peak
A group of 15 women from Albuquerque/Santa Fe/Socorro drove up to the Stewart Creek Trailhead 8-5-5 (the dirt roads were very good, the directions posted on 14ers.com were accurate). On Sat., 8-6 we started up the excellent trail at 6:10 AM; the weather was cloudy and cool. The valley was beautiful with the creek, beaver ponds, deep forest and abundant wildflowers; we didnt see any moose. 14 of the 15 reached the summit (1 turned back due to altitude problems); the fastest were on top in about 3 hrs, 45 minutes; most of the rest of us were up in about 4 1/2 hrs. We were rained on during the trip down; we spoke with 1 hiker who summited a few hours after we did; he ran into hail and snow showers at the top. Our group ranged in ages from 37-70; we had a wonderful time! Betty
