Got a good nights sleep at the Alpine Moose Lodge and started up the trail at daybreak. Figured its fall leaf time so I wanted to get in to the yellow stuff both going up and down.
Drove my Volvo to the trailhead, only the last 3 miles are of the more then pleasantly bumpy sort but nothing fell off... A perfect fall day, not much wind and not a cloud in the sky, aspens at peak color.
Made it up to Redcloud in 2h 9min and across to Sunshine in 38 min, nice and easy hills, excellent trails. Took 68 pictures of Uncompahgre.
Had planned on doing the Sundog loop back to the trail however failed to find any mention of the class 3 scrambling to gain the ridge so my nice easy walk in the park plans kinda fell apart at the saddle between Sunshine and Sundog.
After a couple of false starts I found the correct route (I am truly Colorados worst route finder...) and gained the ridge. Its about an inch wide and I would not recommend trying this one if its windy... Ok, so maybe its two feet across, still no go if its blowing since both sides are pretty much straight down.
Made it to the Sundog summit (there are three situated together, could not figure out which one was the highest even using my altimeter) in an hour and 7 min. Slid down the talus (fairly steep and unstable in some areas, some cairns but no real trail), got lost in the woods (remember, baaaad route finder...) on the way to the main trail and got back to the th 1h 44 min after leaving Sundog.
Filled up both my memory cards with pictures before I got back to the car, it was a really nice day.
