AZ and CA desert riding and camping
As is my normal routine, I headed for AZ after my work as a guide ended Nov 30, 2021. I loaded up my "new to me" truck (2013 GMC Sierra with 57,000 miles on it) and my "new to me" camper (Jayco Baja popup toy hauler). Of course I had the 3 motorcycles too. My big riding and hiking plans this winter included a 75 mile section of the AZT (Arizona Trail) that I had to skip last winter due to fire damage from a very large fire in AZ. The fire fouled springs and made tree damage and the possibility of these trees falling a real issue on trial. My motorcycle rides were remote Death Valley exploration. as well as tons of day rides in the southern AZ area. I also had volunteered to drive my Dad from Phoenix to Minneapolis for Xmas. He didn't want to fly due to Covid issues. That trip alone was 1600 miles round trip. It was good time to spend with Dad as Mom passed last Aug 24th and Dad was alone and without his wife for the first time in 64 years. Time well spent. Blah, blah, blah. I rode my ass off. I had such a great time riding and exploring, hiking, and just getting out. The new truck and camper worked perfectly. I was a big shake down cruise so to speak as next year I will be on a 2 year road trip with my camper and bikes. I will make some small tweaks to my camper and have added solar to get it right for the trip. Death Valley did not disappoint. I went out to the Racetrack, Lippincott Pass, (challenging ride) found old mines (one with a book inside explaining the whole history of the mine..very cool) Ubehebe Crater, close to 200 miles of back county riding. On my way back to Phoenix I rode about 100 miles of the Mojave desert area again. I did a lot of riding there the winter of 2020-2021 and fell in love with the Mojave. I met cool people, saw kick ass places that are hard to get to, did challenging rides, finished up the 75 mile section of the AZT....another winter well spent.
