Belford & Oxford, August 6, 2005. Missouri Gulch th
Started out at 5am with yet another first timer and summited Belford after a leisurely hike at 8:07am, Oxford at 9:11am. Then decided to take the Elkhead Pass trail back (one still has to get back up on Belford but a couple hundred yards from the summit the trail splits, the left one connects with Elkhead.) which was a very good idea despite adding a few miles, the views over the valley north are stunning, had to sit down and take it in for an hour or so. Great finale to a good day of hiking. Excellent trail all around, the standard route up Belford is so switchbacked I barely noticed going up. Which might to some not be such a good thing however when you come back up Belford from Oxford (no switchbacks) you appreciate the energy you saved earlier... Lots of people on the Belford trail, however met only 4 going back Elkhead. Plenty of people camping in the gulch.
