  • Summit Horseshoe: 12:45 PM
  • Left Horseshoe: 1:00 PM

I was the only one parking at the "trailhead" spot in picture #1 of the "East Slopes" Route Description at 11,850', and was the only hiker on this weekday excursion. It was a warm start, and I soon rolled up my long sleeves. The saddle was chilly and windy. I rolled my sleeves back down, added another shirt, pulled on a neck gaiter and topped it off with a poncho. Ahh, much better. It's not a hard hike, not very steep, and very easy to follow the route along the road and up to each peak from the saddle. You pass some interesting old mining sites and mine debris. There are no large boulder fields, and the scree is manageable, but I advise trekking poles for the descent of each peak.

The trail on Horseshoe Mountain is usually easy to follow.

My dog Tippi on the summit of Horseshoe Mountain - 12:45 pm. There is a register there, but I didn't sign in.

Next destination - Peerless Mountain. It's a short jaunt up from the saddle.

The trail up Peerless is rockier than Horseshoe, but not too hard to follow. It's not bad on dog feet if they are regular hikers.

I reached the summit of Peerless Mountain at 1:35 pm. I didn't sign that register either.

We had a great day. The basin was beautiful. I decided not to add any of the neighboring peaks to my hike that day.
