 The High Point of Kansas

On our way home from another successful Colorado mountain climbing trip, the kids and I decided to pick up one more High Point, the High Point of Kansas. The High Point of Kansas is Mount Sunflower and is 4,039 feet high, and pretty much the middle of a field. We left the highway, and after a few miles we are on a dirt road for another 20+ miles. The dirt road was nice and flat, and well groomed, but still challenging to drive fast, for fear that one misstep would cause the car to lose control, and land us in a ditch. We got to the highpoint at about 5 pm. We took some quick pictures, then I jumped out and started running my prerequisite 1 mile out and 1 mile back for a total of 2 miles. My run took me about 20 minutes, then we jumped in the car and continued the drive, back to Ohio.

Thanks for the gpx tracks. Looks like the route finding could be complicated, especially in a storm

Being a lifelong Kansas residence that now lives in Florida Mt Sunflower has been on my list for many years. I just never have taken to the time to get there on a Colorado trip. I always enjoy the trip reports done on my Kansas mountain. I guess someday I should climb Britton Hill, it is Florida's high point at 345' above sea level.
