 Rally for Raleigh

I've been thinking about Raleigh for some time - and finally punched it in for my "new spot per month - November Edition" challenge.

Totally sweet.

And it should be noted that Top of the World (aka Chair Rocks) was my first camping spot - ever- way back in the day. Before Buffalo Fire we used to hit that area frequently. So this was also a bit of a homecoming.

A nice dramatic preview of the goal is always welcome.

Full Disclosure - I had to settle for the eastern/lower top - the other one was snowier and rockier - plus I was nearly running out of light as it was.

Just a little gnarly in this section.

Like I said - I have been monkeying around on rocks like these most my life - and I really just hammered up this fairly quickly to get to very top - on the right up there

My gut is telling me this eastern section is potentially the cooler Rock Castle of the two anyway!

Peeping the Western top portion from the Eastern - you tell me - that seemed like a bit too much for this day.

This is the first panorama shot I've ever taken! Cathedral Spires and the old Chair Rocks in foreground.

Big drop off looking south from top.

Followed Colorado Trail most of the way - and I thought there was some kind of fire break / road that was alternate. about 2/3rd of the way up the CO trail was trailing too hard north - so I just busted up the ridge and that fire road really was just right over there. Followed it down and it provided much better looks all around - Pikes - back at Raleigh - over to Devilshead...

Summit info

The western summit is higher, and can climbed via the west ridge. Requires a bit of route finding and the summit block requires a couple 5.0 moves.
