Quandary Peak - 14,265 feet
|4/24/2005 - East Ridge on Skis|
Skied East Ridge of Quandary today in zero visibility and high wpnds. Thankfully the ridge is fairly easy to follow. Several inches of snow fell while we were up there but the skiing up high wasnt wonderful thanks to to the multitude of rocks poking through. I am sure there is a much better line than the one we took but with no visibility we just had to stay close to the ridge.
Thanks to me being stupid and not adjusting my tourlite tristeps to my bigger pair of boots I got to ski with no rear click-in and an inch heel lift. This was so difficult up high with vertigo and the winds that I had to boot down to tree line.
The skiing from tree line down to the road was *bliss*. Really nice powder and very stable conditions. The trees added enough to give some depth perception.
All and all a great day. It was neat to get up a big peak in some nasty weather and get some great skiing in to boot.
