Silverheels Easiest Line via FS659 (Northwest Slopes > West Ridge)
I wrote up my full Mount Silverheels trip on my blog. I wanted to check out FS 659 and figure out the directions and quality of the 4x4 road. The good news: it's an easy-to-follow road that's fine for most stock SUVs and even CRVs, Rav4s, etc. The bad news is that the forest service roads are not accurate in Google Maps and there's a campground (the Beaver Campground) that is listed on many maps that is simply a dispersed camping pull-off. In a very basic sense, the directions are easy: Co 9 in Fairplay >4th Street >follow National Forest access signs along Beaver Lane > through cattle gate > up FS 659 until it ends.

Here are a few preview photos!

A Nice Route

I agree, this is a nice route for a more casual hike that still feels like a big mountain (because it is!). Let me know if you have any questions. The driving may seem tricky but it's pretty straightforward when you get there. Cheers!
