 Northwest Slopes Route
Attempted the Northwest Slopes route today for the first time. Did solo ascent. Weather was great. After braving the crowded slopes of Grays/Torreys on Sunday, it was nice to have a quiet, solitary trip. Until the trip down.

Started at 5:47 am, and ascended the slopes to the Devil's Playground in around 90 minutes or so. Then finished the rest of the route up Pikes in 3:13. Topped out at 8:59 am, was already crowded with the first Cog rail crowd.

Forgot how many people there are on these front range peaks. Heading out later this week to go to the Sangre de Cristos.

On way down, found most of the 55 hikers were overmatched by this route, had started too late, or didn't know how to navigate sustained class 2.

When back at the TH at 11:50 am, it was packed.

Time to go westward.....but still an enjoyable, beautiful, if windy, day.

(sidenote: met a couple of really nice hikers, probably couple of guys from our 14ers community....and naturally they were kicking butt. hats off to them)
