Peak 10 - 4th of July Bowl |
Solo skin/ski from the base of the Beaver Run Chair Lift in Breckenridge to the summit of Peak 10 and back. Departed from the parking lot at the Beaver Run resort at 0745; summited at 1115; returned to parking lot at 1230. Approximately 4.5 miles up; the return was a bit longer; a little over 9 miles in total. Total elevation gain was 3,679". Good snow all the way for the most part but the Peak 10 Forest Road is plowed to the top of the Mercury Express lift, so you there are dirt road crossings that interrupt the snow, depending on the route of advance. Above Mercury, it's all good snow. The snow in the upper 4th of July Bowl was chalk; lower down it turned to corn. I saw no evidence of avalanche/slide activity on any of the slopes of Peak 10, Peak 9, or Peak 8. Crystal, Pacific, and Father Dyer all looked good also. The attached photos show current snow coverage and the line down the bowl. A great day and a good workout. I saw 3 other human beings during the trip - there were two skiers in front of me and a solo snowboarder about an hour behind me.
