JAMES PEAK 13,294' Date: 11-26-2006 Route: Southeast Slopes Climbers: Wes and EJ R/T Data: 7 miles and 3000' The trail to the lake was icy and steep in spots. Neither of us used snowshoes to the lake but on our way out we saw several parties that did. Here's a picture of what to expect from the parking lot to the Lake. Once we gained the tongue of the glacier we decided to slap on our crampons, for fun. At this point crampons are not needed on the glacier but it was good practice for Ecuador. Here's a photo of the glacier from the lake. Between the top of glacier and the base of James Peak there was very little snow. We didn't use snowshoes until about 12.2K. Here's a photo of James peak from the top of the glacier. At around 12.5K we put our snowshoes on and trudged our way up the final 1200'. The weather got worse the higher we ascended and at one point we were getting snowed on. Here's a photo of conditions around 12.5K. Here's a photo of the summit conditions. This was a great climb with very little avy danger. I would recommend this climb to anyone looking to get some winter elevation gain close to Denver.

A friend of mine and I are considering this route sometime soon. Looks like fun. I bet there‘s more snow this year, though...
