 The Presidential Traverse and Beyond
The Presidential Traverse and Beyond

Location: White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire
Dates: June 26-28, 2015
Participants: Dana Sanford, Miguel Gonzalez, Nate Watts, Ray Priebe, Dillon Sarnelli

Once upon a time way back in 2012, Dana, Migz, Nate and Ray got off a plane at DIA and within 24 hours found themselves on the summits of Chiefs Head (Sheeps Head if you ask Dana) and Alice in Rocky Mountain National Park. At the time I figured these would be some excellent "acclimation" peaks since a sunrise summit of Longs was on tap for the following day. It would be the 1st outing of what has since become a somewhat annual hazing tradition.

Skip ahead to 2014 and the reunion tour found us climbing some of Colorado's finest peaks in Ruby Basin - Pigeon, Turret and the Animas Group - all the way from Purgatory TH, a trip that Nate has since coined the Dillon Death March.

In 2015 it was their turn to return the favor... on their turf. And they sure did. Keep Reading...

I didn’t even know they made mountains below 10,000 feet.

Looks like a good trip!

... loved Dave’s comment!

Yeah, that Traverse is a lot of fun! Too bad you couldn’t go north a little farther and hit Katahdin as well, but maybe another day... I think Kay was just up there a few weeks ago. Thanks for posting; brought back some great memories! :D

yeah, that’s a tough one! So much boulder–hopping in that Jefferson–Clay stretch, if memory serves me right...

If you don’t mind me asking, what was your time?

Doug – yeah 5ers. who knew! Katahdin and some exploring in the Greens will happen someday I hope. Great memories for you I’m sure! Thanks for the comment. Fun indeed!

Alexey – yessir! a lot of boulder hopping indeed! we were on washington in a little over 4 hours I believe. Didn’t really time it because there were 5 of us.

EatinHardtack – thanks thanks thanks man!

Svenski – thanks! It’s amazing what’s possible out there with Colorado lungs. Breathing isn’t even an afterthought cranking up those hills. Glad I could provide some pics of home for ya!

Damn that’s a lot of elevation gain! And miles. Was it easier with the lower elevation? I’m looking to finally climb Mt Washington later this year. Yous guys had awesome weather. I rode up there in August as a kid and it was all socked in thick clouds. So did you actually end up doing Longs after that Chiefs Head/Alice "acclimation hike"?

Zambo! thanks dude. you’re pretty awesome too. the elks are calling and we must go. seeya sunday buddy! that is all.

cougar - thanks for the comment! Awesome weather indeed. That last question made me laugh. They were troopers and got longs but there was 1/2 a rest day in between. :) I think I could run marathons at the lower elevation. Its pretty amazing how much easier it is to go uphill. Enjoy your trip! You’ll love it. The chile on the summit comes highly recommended!
