Mount Moran - Skillet Glacier Survival Ski
Spent the long weekend in Wyoming, skiing a line in the Tetons and nabbing a class 5.4 leg stretcher on the drive home. Never knew it was possible to have fun in Rock Springs. TR here - Moran Skillet Ski Descent

Awesome report. I was probably gaping in your general direction at some point this weekend. The Skillet jumped high on my list after the first sighting, and your write-up might have pushed it into the ”2015 Must Do” category.

What a great introduction to the Teton Range, my next trip there has some livin' up to do. It was great to get to ski such a classic line with you, looking forward to the next one.

Probably my favorite line in the Tetons that I have ridden to date. Glad you guys had a good trip.

Most excellent adventure and trip report. And, hey, I have a bear phobia too. One bad encounter leaves a lasting memory.

Surf - Skillet is a very worthy objective. Get an outboard motor for whatever boat you get, you'll be thankful for it. That lake is f'ing long.

ZachT - Your TR was used in the planning. Great line. We kept commenting on the fact you guys made shuttle trips up and down that lake.

mtgirl - Bears are awesome, from a distance. Thanks for the comment.

Caroline - you should definiately ski this soon! Thanks for the comment.

Ski man. Nice job on boars tusk. Its an old volcano. The red desert is an amazing place. Google "adobe town". Western wyo's motto is "dont fence me in". Did you check out the sand dunes too?

I like your style. Unfortunately there's no water down here in NM for me to try something like that, but it's fun to read about others taking a new approach to having a good adventure. Though I would have been quite nervous about tipping and losing such expensive gear.

Great job, guys.

Brian Thomas - thanks for the comment

MrWaffles - thanks, did not check out Sand Dunes, it was a quick in and out. Boars Tusk was interesting. Not sure I'd head up there just for it, but it was a nice way to break up the long drive. That adobe town looks like no man's land.

Stephanie - We certainly were nervous about gear. We had 3 huge dry bags, but with 3 people and gear, the boat definately felt unstable. Thanks for the comment, hope you are enjoying yourself down in NM.

Luke - Thanks for the comment, that cow gave us this look like ”Boars Tusk eh?.....welp see ya later!”

PailoKona - Thanks a lot for the comment.

Sick brah! Too bad the snow looked horrible. Skillet is a great ski line when it's in good shape. best time to get it is in March. Skied that line back in '89 with about 12” of blower powder. Never will forget that day.

How long to paddle across the lake?
5/31/2014 11:29am
The photo looks kinda windy. Certainly doesn't look trivial.

It was windy on the way over there. I believe it took 2.75 hours to paddle from dock to dock, including a break on the west side of Spalding Bay, and then another break 10 min later due to the wind tossing us back in the shore. Ride back took 90 minutes and was perfectly calm.

Grundle skiing at it's best!!

Took me a while to get to this one cause I wanted to wait to sit down with no distractions and really appreciate it. Questionable skiing but an amazing trip, standard fare for Moran I suppose. Standard that is for the handful fortunate enough to experience it. Fantastic TR. I should have come.
