Keyhole & North Face Photos / Met Longs Peak celebrity
This was just too cool. I had to post about this.
First off I wanted to post some photos of the north face & keyhole in case anyone is interested in doing either soon. The snow (keyhole route) is firm and stable. It gets more mushy after noon, but doesn't seem like it will move.
Second off, I met a Longs Peak celebrity.
I started before dusk and there was only one other hiker on the trail. We kept passing each other throughout the trip, exchanging polite introductions and remarks about the day.
This lady (Lisa) was very helpful on my decent of the homestretch, she gave me some tips about using the crampons / ice axe and held my pack while I descended (slid down) the trough crux (THANKS!)
Throughout the trip I gathered she was a pretty experienced mountaineer, and found out on the summit she had climbed Longs 53 times by just about every route imaginable (and some I don't even want to imagine)
I found out later she was the first female to complete the Longs Peak grid, has more Longs Peak summits than any female and published the book on Rocky Mountain National Park.
After casually meeting Steve Gladbach last year (RIP) this is the second legend I've unknowingly met on the trail, and one thing they both had in common was that they didn't have an ego and offered few hints to suggest that they were anything other than an ordinary climber out enjoying the day. (I shouldn't forget I've met Anton K a few times, but it's pretty obvious what he's all about).
You never know who you'll meet on 14ers.

Have you read the CAIC report about her unfortunate misadventure in RMNP from last winter? Its pretty amazing stuff. Should be made into a movie, her perseverance is simply amazing.
edit: her it is http://avalanche.state.co.us/caic/acc/acc_report.php?acc_id=499&accfm=inv
You can get a couple hundred feet above treeline but then its rocks.
I also saw a couple ski lines going down the bowl between Mt Lady Washington and Battle Mountain.
To me it doesn't seem worth it but every weekend I've been up there I've seen dudes skiing so it must appeal to some.
