Thought I would try for another Centennial before the snow gets deep. Wasn't sure if the roads would be passable since the trailhead is WAY back there, but figured I'd at least go check it out.
Driving towards the Cebolla TH as the sun starts to rise, Stewart Pk and Baldy Chato make their appearance. The road was in decent shape, and the heavy hunter traffic was packing down the snow on the roads. The roads were a nasty mud soup on the way out; lots of fishtailing and a car wash was required.
Temperatures actually felt warmer than this picture would suggest. There was a faint boot pack from before the previous snow. Enough to make out the trail through the woods.
Breaking out of the trees and into the forest of willows. There isn't a gradual transition of tree height; they just end. Follow the poles through the willows. There isn't a straight path between each pole, so you have to weave around a bit.
Making my way up the tundra with nice views of the snow covered San Juans to the west.
Peaking out on Baldy Chato, with the long ridge leading to Stewart Pk.
Lots of interesting rock formations along the ridge.
Nice curves
Long way to San Luis Pk. I was originally thinking of adding Baldy Alto to the itinerary, but I was running on empty all day, so left that one for a future trip.
Extra credit - "Column Ridge". Saved these for the way back to make sure I had enough energy for Stewart.
Yours truly, glad to be on top. Wind chill was pretty cold on the summit; couldn't have the gloves off for more than a minute, even on such a nice day.
On top of "Column Ridge". Unranked, but since I'm in the area...
Looking back towards San Luis
Interesting rocks on the south side of Baldy Chato
