Yet Another Grays and Torreys Report - Standard Combo
After a disappointing attempt at Evans via Guanella Pass three weeks prior, my uncle and I decided to give Grays and Torreys a shot. I've wanted to summit these two since I started climbing 14ers three years ago, but never had a 4WD vehicle while in Colorado; my uncle, the proud owner of a Toyota Tundra, has never summited a 14er... the interest was mutual!

Report:

Left Littleton at 0500 (a little late in my opinion, but it worked out)
Arrived at Grays TH at 0615 (the 4WD Tundra was appreciated)
Summited Grays at 0830
Summited Torreys at 0945 (we took our time across the saddle)
Back to TH at 1130

Notes:

The trail was excellent all the way up to Grays
The "Class 2" trail down Grays to Torreys was in good shape; in my opinion, it was more like a difficult Class 1... if that.
The snowfield on the trail that bypasses Grays on the way down from Torreys is packed and in good shape; however, extra care should still be taken when crossing it.

Glad you had a good day of it. Someday go back and do Greys from the other side without the C470 backups. Nice pictures!

Grays Bypass - Descent from Torreys

Glad the Grays bypass softened up a bit for your traverse. It was solid ice at 0600. Agree with extra care in crossing, regardless of condition. Good report. Nice pics. Tundra - Nice truck. Congrats.

James: I will definitely check that out sometime. We hung out on the east side of Grays' summit and actually met someone who took that approach.

No Malarkey: Thanks! I'm glad we didn't have to cross they bypass when it was icy... it made me nervous enough, as is. It's times like that when I wish I had a lower center of gravity!
