You have taste in mountains but we need to discuss your diet. You've moved on from Tomato Jam to Shrimp Ramen? Helmut and I will be administering an intervention at the next BBQ.

Scot, tomato jam was just a momentary lapse... Ramen (+roast beef) is where it's at for the long run. Sorry we were strawberry scented ____nozzles during the last trip. We really should get together for a climb at some point.

Congrats on what looks like a perfect weather window and some great corn on Shasta. One of the coolest peaks in the contiguous US no doubt! Anytime you can head up there and nab a bluebird window like that it's a sure win for us Colorado folk. Thanks for the kind words, and nice blog!

As for Quality Inn meat options, the feces sausages might not be that far off the mark. Ever heard of FDA approved ammoniated beef filler from a company called BPI? Look into it if you dare...

Awesome work Prakash and thanks for the read! Shasta was on the list for a recent Cali 14er trip I took but settled on Spilt. Who'd want to ski 6000 vert when you could walk it!?

Any nearby lower peaks or something you spotted that may be a cool addition to Shasta (not as a link up I mean)?

PS Sorry for yet another ramen reference :)

Believe it or not, he's actually improving his diet. It used to be cold, leftover Mountain House meals.

Nice job, Prakash! Let me know when you are down in my area. You know, where the mountains are better.

I think I missed my window for Shasta this year... but I gotta get out and ski it sometime. Great TR and awesome pix!

Ew... that pink slime beef filler stuff is disgusting... That just might drive me the vegan route.
Abe, Shastina is probably a good one, but yeah probably not a linkup. Red butte or Whaleback might be good too.
Steph, we all know I was forced to gobble that Mt. House meal because I knew you would wake up and steal that delicious goodness from me. Are you in Durango now?
Matt, the snow was going fast. Apparently the road to the trailhead was closed at about 6500' the weekend before we did it and all that snow and then some was gone in one week. It was 95 in Mt. Shasta city (3560') last weekend.

Given your food list - you didn't ”shasta” yourself.

Hot Tuna looks like a fun route. As far as getting out there - have you ever considered tracking the weather and driving out with 2 buddies? I've done much analyzing and crunched some numbers and that seems like the most economical option - downsides being you are driving over 1000 miles each way and you need 2 additional days. You could still do some damage though. Even if you got 2 or 3 volcanoes (Hood, Jefferson, Adams, 3 Sisters, Shasta - in a day) - it would be worth it.

Thanks for the entertaining read. Cascade TR's are sweet!

Driving with a group is a good idea but my vacation days are typically tight and I can't afford the two extra days in a car. Thanks for the beta... certainly glad I ran into your (and Ben's) reports. Renting gear at the location of the climb seems like a decent option, if flying... going by Pj's experience. Also a lower risk of having precious personal Fritschi FRs (yes, Fritschis) broken by baggage staff.
