 Mountainous Words Trip Report (Standard)
On Sept. 23 2012, I made a return trip up Capitol Peak with Jenny Salentine and Sheila Powell. Both ladies are on the fringe of wrapping up the 14ers so I was glad to accompany them on this burly scramble.

We had a great weather day and everything went well. The surprise of the day was where our hardest crux move was: not the knife edge, not the ridge ascent but rather on the north side of the K2 bypass. Check out the full report over at mountainouswords.com: Capitol Peak Trip Report.

Yup, it's another photo of that famous spine of rock known as the knife edge!

Surprisingly, the icy foot patches here made this the crux of our climb!

You paid the price and your efforts paid off. Congratulations on the hardest summit. Sorry about all the misery!

Not too much misery :) Though Sheila made a foreboding statement at the start of the hike: ”This is the hardest thing about this hike!” (Referring to putting the permit envelope in the box).

Guess I'm going to have to buy your book! Now, if I could only pronounce your last name.....

Thanks!

Thanks Jay. You know, I'm not entirely sure how to pronounce my last name. The owner at Villa Tatra (a Polish restaurant in Estes Park) rather sternly told me I was pronouncing it wrong. Who knew? :)

I still think going around K2 is the crux of the climb even in dry weather. But add ice and snow... that might be more than I'd like to try. Great job! Thanks for posting! :D
