I'm not a mountaineer or expert by any means, and despite this fact, we researched the route and read the TRs to prepare. I'm imagine myself standing on the top Pyramid Peak and scream out loud "I did it!!!" You have to find out I make it or not keep reading.
We pull in parking lot and walk down the lake my Husband want to catch a few trout while I'm enjoy the view, and we just notice something was going on. We come to find out there was the helicopter and a bunch of SAR running up and down the trails so we ask one of the guy in the group of 5. He said 1 guy get hurt descending S. Maroon. And the same afternoon 2 hour later we heard someone else get hurt near Snowmass (rock fall). We PAUSE !!! That night I couldn't sleep very well and keep thinking and praying that God will protect and keep all the hikers out there safe and put the shield around them. I'm look up the star gazing at night try to count them all until we fall sleep.
We heading out at 4:00 a.m the thought of what happen yesterday still hanging over my head and my heart ache when later we come to find out the vibrant, compassion, funny, love the outdoor and a friend to this 14ers community say farewell to us all. On that note somehow the thought losing a friend I never met was sad, but gave me a sense of joy that someday I'll see him again until then Rob we will continue to enjoy and do what we love. We pray for your family.
By the time we reach the Amphitheater the sun just peaking out. I haven't been in Europe or see the coliseum except in the movies so when I stand there looking at the Amphitheater is just remind me of Gladiator movie!! The view from this point down just simply AMAZING!!! We stop here for a little snack I start looking around to see any one come up behind us but we didn't see any. Cairns and trail segments lead us to bottom of steep slope, then we made our way up the 1000' to the NE ridge. This slope was steep - reminded us of Broken Hand Pass - but it looks like recent rains packed it down a bit so it wasn't so loose. Many goats greeted us.
Leap of Faith can be interesting when 4'11"...But it sure makes cliff traverse easier! We negotiated the Leap of Faith and cliff traverse without any issues - they were a blast! After climbing the green wall, we followed cairns up to the left - never really saw the exit described in route detail. From here, we just worked our way up and angled left, following cairns, and found our way to the summit. We relaxed for 20 minutes before four guys summitted - the first people we saw all day. Diving Board w. Maroons, Snowmass and Cap in backMaroon East Side - enjoyed that slope the previous week
Observations: Routefinding was fairly straightforward and not as tough as S. Maroon. Climbing from bottom of green wall to summit was sustained class 3, with occasional short class 4 move required. Rock was quite solid for the Elks. Including us, there were 9 people on trail all day - on a beautiful August Sunday! Pyramid has become one of our favorites!!
When I standing on this Pyramid it just felt different than any others, exhilarating, rejuvenating. When you think nothing is impossible but with God grace everything possible. This is my final thought I would like to leave for anyone thinking climb this Peak - an acrostic.
Perseverance & Persistence You must remain focus and endurance Result at the end far more than you can imagine All you need to have is faith and courage to go upward Make believe you can do it & know the view on the top is waiting Impossible is the key to motivate and move you to think possible. Determination, Gratitude, Patience and above all carry the light heart with you.
