Straighter than a Grizzly.....Beartown to Arrow
I finally made it to the Vestal Basin last week, as I had a few days to kill in Lake City. Including the long Beartown approach, we found ourselves doing about 24 miles and 8800' over the course of 24 hours.

The full trip report can be found here.

Hard to believe you ”bonked”. That's something I never thought I'd read happening to you!

I still need to get out to that area. I will, someday. *sigh*

Great report!

I would've handed my partner my 12” blade, maybe even made a spear for him, showed him the general direction of where wildlife might congregate, bid him goodluck and to not return till we has something to show for it.

Sounds like the trip was salvaged with some solid scrambling on a very noteworthy peak, must really suck to have to walk right past Wham Ridge though (not to throw Grant any further under the bus).

Nice report. Were you at Southern Viddles on Saturday night? I thought I recognized you from your reports if so :D

...and then he forgot food?

I agree with lordhelmut, I'd have made him turn over logs and eat grubs/gather crabapples from trees until he felt he had consumed enough calories to hit the Wham :P. In all seriousness though, Arrow is a sweet peak and worthy of going in there for in and of itself. Just make sure your group has food on the return trip!

sevenvii - Yup, I was there Saturday night, Friday night, Thursday night, etc, etc. Fell in love with those bbq pork tacos.

benners, helmut, etc - Eh. It sucked. Chalk it up as a learning experience.

Abe, maybe next time eh? :)
