Two little girls brave the cold

I took my daughter and her cousin up Bierstadt this past Sunday. It turned out to be a pretty tough climb for them due to the cold but I was very impressed by their ability to push on even when they didn't really want to. Overall it was a great trip and these two (ages 7 and 8 ) did a great job on the mountain. They also helped renew some of my original enjoyment of hiking a 14er.

I learned one big lesson on this hike. If hiking a slope on a west face on a day with no chance of thunderstorms in the forecast but some cold weather, go ahead and start the hike a little later so that you won't be in the mountains shadow during the coldest time of day.

What an awesome experience for them...and you. Wished my dad took me up a 14er back when I was that age.

Great job getting them out there!! Doing the same with my kiddos and it does bring back the original enjoyment of climbing. My daughters bring much joy to me and its even better when we are out climbing and hiking, camping, fishing etc. Your experience looks like a great one and one they will surely remember and hopefully want to do more. Keep it up!!

One of the best TRs I have written in a while.

Ellie, great job on the TR, first one I remember being written by the actual young climber and not the parents. Its great to hear your perspective and excellent, brief, clear descriptions of each photo! My daughter's neighborhood friend is named Ellie (Elinore) too. Good work on the mountain and I will be looking forward to more trip reports in the future.

AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Congrats to the ladies on such a fine hike! I love that they wrote their own report. FYI - if you view Square Top from the North (ie Mt Wilcox or Argentine), you'll see why it got it's name.

I saw your smiling faces on my way down. IN FACT, you caught me, the gray haired man in black stumbling down the rocks in your second picture just above you, struggling with the rocks and snow. Very much impressed!! Might have been the best part of the trip!!!
