So I'm not sure how much interest there will be in these reports - they're more race report than trip report. However, they did involve a fourteener...and I suppose there aren't too many like them in the 14er.com archives. Enjoy.

Saturday - Pikes Peak Ascent

Sunday - Pikes Peak Marathon

Animal? Hah.

Thanks guys. I'm no animal; there are many others out there who have done some much more impressive stuff.

Niner - glad I could help you relive your own debacle! I believe my Sunday up was 18th fastest and my descent was 4th fastest. Daryn Parker was about 30 seconds faster. Matt Carpenter was down in 1:26 or so, and Bernie Boettcher was in the 1:32 range.

Thanks for writing it up! I'm amazed by your double, especially the 2nd half of the marathon. Have you figured out how your downhill split time compares to everyone else?

I did the ascent once, in 2001, as a flatlander living in Texas. I was running 3:45-3:50 flatland marathons then. Pikes Peak is a completely different animal though. I probably did everything wrong in the ascent possible (including stopping for a snack at A-frame) and finished in 5:20. Ended up getting sick with about a mile to go too. It was a very humbling experience.

Kudos to your accomplishment. It was a lot of fun to read about it and remember my own debacle on it.
