Info: The gate at the winter trailhead is still locked preventing car access to the 2WD trailhead. Regardless, the road itself is bone dry with no snow and serves as a 2-mile warmup to the old, closed 4WD trail.

Info: We parked at the winter closure at 39.26066 N, 106.017038 W, which has space for a number of vehicles. In the morning, there were several inches of fresh storm snow that required some careful Subaru driving, but by the afternoon it had all been packed down by traffic and could have been handled by any vehicle. This area is frequented by snowmobile riders in winter.

Info: The FS has indeed permanently closed 184 and also most parking for the trailhead though there is still enough for a few cars. They also elected to completely tear up the road making it unpleasant to hike though it is still open for foot traffic according to signs. According to a south park ranger I talked to it is being re-vegetated. I fail to see how the piles of torn up dead plants I saw count as re-vegetation. Beautiful hike so sad to see it made a bit worse

Info: The USFS has fenced off the road at the creek crossing. No longer accessible to motor vehicles beyond the 2wd TH.

Info: Not much to update here, everything dry and easily accessible still save the creek crossing, which is pretty shallow now (maybe ankle height at the foot crossing)

Info: 1-3" of snow on much of 659 and 184. Creek maybe 3" deep, no problem for stick 4WD truck.

Info: Smooth road to 2WD trailhead where FS184 crosses Beaver Creek. Early fall, so low water. Creek crossing is easy with 4WD: water is on the road for about 100 feet long, but mostly less than 6 inches deep with gentle slopes at both ends. If crossing on foot, creek is only about 8 feet wide and there is a pile of rocks for easy crossing just upstream from road. Road to 4WD trailhead was mostly smooth dirt with just a few rocks, roots and water bars.

Info: Didn't hike Silverheels today, but went to check out the TH for possible hike next week. It should be noted that the Beaver Creek road is closed at the beginning, at about 10,370 ft, from December 1-June 15 of each year. There are TWO locked gates blocking the road at this point, so no chance of getting through until they are opened for the summer. Other than that, road has some deep washboards to the lower TH but I think any 2wd could make it.

Info: I added this Trailhead to 14ers.com on 7/22/19 after having been there this weekend for Mt. Silverheels and not having any additional info on the TH apart from JQDivide's TR and Roach's 13ers book (both are GREAT resources that helped immensely). This TH is in great shape until the creek. If you have a lifted or 4WD vehicle you can make it through the creek (at least knee-deep in parts), keep going on the decent road to the TH at an old road around 11k - plenty of space to park there and start the hike. The TH is easy to get to in a Forester and a sedan would make it just fine to the creek as well. **If you have any suggestions for the TH directions, please let me know - I will happily update and adjust as necessary**
