Info: Drive in AWD half a mile below junction/summer TH. About 3-4, minimum 10" deep puddles and short sections of snow easy at morning, but more tricky on way down

Info: Made it to the TH in a 4Runner. Road is mostly dry with some snow-covered sections, but nothing too deep or long. I bet most SUVs could make it up, or brave sedan drivers. Either way, you can make it much farther than 4 miles from the TH that the winter description describes given the low snow year.

Info: Puddles are still present, but not very deep (4-6"). I'd say any car can make it to the standard TH with a little care and taking it slow. That said, I'm a brave driver. I only saw Subarus and off-roaders at the TH.

Info: Just a warning: I was sleeping at the trailhead Saturday night (8/23/25-8/24/2025) and woke up several times to a large porcupine under my pickup. He was relentless, so I ended up driving back down the road till I found a spot where I could park on the side.

Info: I could believe this is (and in fact think I remember it from 2020 as being) easy 2WD dirt as the route description says later in summer or autumn, but right now, there are four large puddles just below the junction for Mosquito Pass and the turn-off for Tweto that made me glad to have my Outback’s ground clearance. Smaller cars might want to park at a pulloff below the North London Mill at least until the water drains.

Info: Road is free of snow until just past the mill turn off. The higher up you go, the more puddles there are. Some are pretty deep, like 2ft. You can probably make it with a higher clearance 2wd car to just before the puddles hereish (39.29308, -106.14880). I parked here (39.27841, -106.12229) and recommend other people with low clearance cars do the same.

Info: 300 yards past the winter TH you will encounter a large frozen snow drift. You will not make it any further. Park here.

Info: From Hwy 9 to about 4 miles in, Mosquito Pass Road is easy 2-wheel dirt. Starting at about 4.5 miles in, the road is rougher but still 2WD, though you'll have to dodge some rocks. Near the North London Mill, there are several rocky areas and some large, deep puddles that require more significant clearance - my stock Forester made it through, but the water was up to the body of the car. About 0.1 miles past the parking area the road gets vastly harder (as soon as it heads up the slope toward the mine). Several jeeps passed me while hiking, but I wouldn't dream of taking anything less up that slope. From where the road turns into the upper basin (roughly mile 7.5) to the mine the road was much better, then past the mine it got more challenging again, though not nearly as bad as the lower hill.

Info: Drove up on 6/23. My stock Toyota 4Runner had no issues with the puddles getting to the Mosquito Creek TH parking area, a couple of Subies backed out before the puddles. Was also shocked to see a Prius parked there. Past the Mosquito Creek parking area, the road becomes a decent flowing creek and then is still covered in snow near the mine

Info: huge deep puddles this time of year. I drove through and got a bent plate, but probably should have just parked before them like most people, the extra distance is minimal. There are several water holes in the same spot, don't think they ever dry up. Road on east side of Mosquito Pass still is blocked by several large snowdrifts, including at North London Mine, and the road is a river in most spots. Although someone towed a boat up to that point, probably the better vehicle choice.

Info: Parked at the junction of 12 and 696 as WillE did. Still multiple feet of snow on the entire road. Easy walk.

Info: Road is bumpy but generally fine until ~100' from the left turn to the 2WD parking lot. The deep puddles were deep enough to get my front bumper wet (8.5" clearance), and I still had a ways to go across it (unclear if it got deeper since the puddles are very muddy/hard to see through), so I parked at one of the pull-offs just before that spot. A couple Subis and a mini van were parked by me when I returned. I probably could have made it through the puddles OK, but since I was doing the London-Mosquito-Tweto loop, this added less than 100' of distance to my hike, so not worth it. Even if just going up and back on the road you're not adding much distance to your day. There was a newer Rav4 at the lot, so clearly I could have made it if I really wanted. Road beyond the lot gets rockier and rougher almost immediately, and if you want to go above the old mine you'll want an appropriately modded vehicle.

Info: Adding on to the status update from yesterday...we parked at the main TH area detailed on the site but the road is drivable up to near the mine at 12,250. It's a pretty rough 4x4 road, saw a Land Rover, FJ, and Tacoma up there as well as a Bronco that took one of the side roads up to Oliver Twist Lake.

Info: Road is passable to the small parking area past the road split near the mill, but the deep puddles remain. Made it fine in an Outback. It's in pretty good shape besides the puddles.
