4/13/2025 Posted On: 4/13/2025 By: Frontrangeskier Info: 300 yards past the winter TH you will encounter a large frozen snow drift. You will not make it any further. Park here.
7/18/2024 Posted On: 7/23/2024 By: Khieras Info: From Hwy 9 to about 4 miles in, Mosquito Pass Road is easy 2-wheel dirt. Starting at about 4.5 miles in, the road is rougher but still 2WD, though you'll have to dodge some rocks. Near the North London Mill, there are several rocky areas and some large, deep puddles that require more significant clearance - my stock Forester made it through, but the water was up to the body of the car. About 0.1 miles past the parking area the road gets vastly harder (as soon as it heads up the slope toward the mine). Several jeeps passed me while hiking, but I wouldn't dream of taking anything less up that slope. From where the road turns into the upper basin (roughly mile 7.5) to the mine the road was much better, then past the mine it got more challenging again, though not nearly as bad as the lower hill.
6/23/2024 Posted On: 6/23/2024 By: happyallyy Info: Drove up on 6/23. My stock Toyota 4Runner had no issues with the puddles getting to the Mosquito Creek TH parking area, a couple of Subies backed out before the puddles. Was also shocked to see a Prius parked there. Past the Mosquito Creek parking area, the road becomes a decent flowing creek and then is still covered in snow near the mine
6/22/2024 Posted On: 6/22/2024 By: cougar Info: huge deep puddles this time of year. I drove through and got a bent plate, but probably should have just parked before them like most people, the extra distance is minimal. There are several water holes in the same spot, don't think they ever dry up. Road on east side of Mosquito Pass still is blocked by several large snowdrifts, including at North London Mine, and the road is a river in most spots. Although someone towed a boat up to that point, probably the better vehicle choice.
4/13/2024 Posted On: 4/13/2024 By: 14er101 Info: Parked at the junction of 12 and 696 as WillE did. Still multiple feet of snow on the entire road. Easy walk.
8/20/2023 Posted On: 8/20/2023 By: madmattd Info: Road is bumpy but generally fine until ~100' from the left turn to the 2WD parking lot. The deep puddles were deep enough to get my front bumper wet (8.5" clearance), and I still had a ways to go across it (unclear if it got deeper since the puddles are very muddy/hard to see through), so I parked at one of the pull-offs just before that spot. A couple Subis and a mini van were parked by me when I returned. I probably could have made it through the puddles OK, but since I was doing the London-Mosquito-Tweto loop, this added less than 100' of distance to my hike, so not worth it. Even if just going up and back on the road you're not adding much distance to your day. There was a newer Rav4 at the lot, so clearly I could have made it if I really wanted. Road beyond the lot gets rockier and rougher almost immediately, and if you want to go above the old mine you'll want an appropriately modded vehicle.
6/25/2023 Posted On: 6/26/2023 By: nedryarson Info: Adding on to the status update from yesterday...we parked at the main TH area detailed on the site but the road is drivable up to near the mine at 12,250. It's a pretty rough 4x4 road, saw a Land Rover, FJ, and Tacoma up there as well as a Bronco that took one of the side roads up to Oliver Twist Lake.
6/24/2023 Posted On: 6/24/2023 By: cougar Info: Road is passable to the small parking area past the road split near the mill, but the deep puddles remain. Made it fine in an Outback. It's in pretty good shape besides the puddles.
6/19/2023 Posted On: 6/19/2023 By: sarahmariekirk Info: Made it up to the 2WD TH today in my stock Jeep Rubicon with no issues, along with my friend in her stock 4Runner. The snowdrift that was previously blocking the last few hundred feet from the 2WD TH is now completely melted out, and is a pretty deep water crossing. This was no issue for our vehicles but keep this in mind if you have a lower clearance vehicle. | 1 |

5/29/2023 Posted On: 5/30/2023 By: Phill the Thrill Info: 4WD with HIGH clearance can make it to the summer trailhead. There is a lot of flowing water filling a couple of deep ruts. We were in a Toyota 4Runner.
5/21/2023 Posted On: 5/21/2023 By: LetsGoMets Info: 2WD/AWD can get to within 1.2 miles of the standard summer TH where there is a stretch of snow. Higher clearance 4WD can make it another .5 miles where there is a large snowdrift stopping all access. Overall road has patchy snow but mostly dry, but the couple areas are still making it difficult. Booted easily to the trailhead proper. Melting fast.
4/16/2023 Posted On: 4/20/2023 By: sdkeil Info: Road was passable for a Subaru until 0.4 miles after the Mosquito Pass road splits from CR 696. There is a pretty sizeable drift blocking the road, but plenty of area to park and turn around. Beyond this drift there were patchy sections of dry road.
10/29/2022 Posted On: 10/30/2022 By: bangerth Info: The road is in pretty good shape and I had no problem at all getting my Subi Outback all the way to the parking lot. I can't even say where the two big holes would have been that were reported in previous reports. When I drove there the night before the hike, the road is packed snow and ice, but it is quite level and never slopes towards an abyss, so I felt safe. In the afternoon, it was packed snow, ice, and slush and a bit slippery. I didn't race and again felt safe.
9/17/2022 Posted On: 9/17/2022 By: mtngoatwithstyle Info: CR 12 is in pretty good shape. I was able to drive with my Subie on the road until the 2 big and deep potholes and parked right before them. You can't miss them. I started my hike there towards London Mtn.
6/20/2022 Posted On: 6/20/2022 By: ncxhjhgvbi Info: Puddles are back with the melt. Definitely need 4WD and clearance to get through, but not a big deal to park before as they are right by the TH as mentioned before. First one is quite deep even in a TRD Tacoma but I made it through fine. Pass road pretty gnarly but driveable up to the north London mill if you are so inclined. I saw a 4Runner and a lifted bronco coming down. Big drift makes the road impassible around 12,350. Lots of water on the road descending Tweto thats basically unavoidable. Saw some fresh tracks so someone has been up that road in a vehicle as well. |
