Jennings Creek Trailhead

Info: Rating is pretty accurate, though we made it in a AWD with good clearance. No huge obstacles, just consistent bumps with some dips due to washout. We made it pretty easily in a Mazda CX9- just took it slow and picked our lines carefully. Beautiful dispersed camping along the way.

Info: Accessible with any Subaru crosstrek equivalent or more. Happened to see one sedan about a mile from unmarked Jennings Creek TH - though I consider that brave as there were some big rocks to navigate. Lots of great dispersed camping sites along the road.

Info: No issue with my F350, made it to TH late Friday night. Not a lot of room for parking at the TH. Most of the campsites were already taken, lots of people. No issues as long as you have good clearance.

Info: Made it in a CRV, I believe the road rating to be accurate. It was pretty much 4 miles of rocky road driving, as long as you are careful you can make it with 7 inches of clearance. It's really not that bad, but I wouldn't take anything with less then that. Since it was Friday and this isn't the standard trail, I was able to park at the trail sign. If it was busier, you probably have to get there really early or park a little further away like the description indicates.

Info: Drivable to the reservoir by any suv, so long as you like driving 6 miles in an hour and 15 minutes

Info: There is a confusing sign at the trailhead that says the trail is closed, but maybe not to hikers? I called the ranger district and they said this is no longer an official trail, which is why it is no longer on the maps. They stopped maintaining this trail because too many people would take it up to Tabeguache but descend the wrong gully and get stuck and need a rescue. They said there is nothing illegal with hiking this trail, but if you do, make sure you know where you are going, and take THE SAME TRAIL DOWN, as mentioned in the description.

Info: A large tree has fallen and is being held up over the road by another tree. 2.1 miles from the trailhead as you drive in. My truck with lift and a GFC on it is 8 feet tall at its highest point. I was just able to clear. Be advised if you are taking a large vehicle/lifted vehicle up there.

Info: Note that there is excellent dispersed camping 0.45 miles below the trailhead. It was also the best parking option for my F-250.

Info: We reached the trailhead with no issues in a Chevy Silverado. However I think this road has gotten much worse in recent years. I made the TH with a 2018 Jeep Cherokee 3 years ago & that would have been a real struggle if I still had that car. I have a Subaru now and anyone who would consider taking a Subaru up there is definitely much more brave than I am.

Info: Road was bumpy but mostly dry and doable in any 4wd vehicle. We saw a couple awd/suv crossover types heading up the road and I think with some careful and slow driving they were just fine. We were in a 2017 Jeep Cherokee with all season tires and had no issues at all.

Info: The road is clear to North Fork Reservoir campground although I didnt drive that far. Up to Jennings Creek its about the same difficulty as most summers. My Xterra (9.5 inches) made it fine. Might be subaruable if youre slow and pick your lines. No mud pits or anything new to note.

Info: Road is now clear to about 10,400', about a third of a mile before Jennings Creek TH and about a mile before the TH to Carbonate. There's a downed tree blocking the road at this point. There were two other spots where a downed tree blocked the road. Me, Pierre, and Bruno were able to move them. There are also a few snow drifts but a Toyota Tacoma and my Xterra made it through them.

Info: Road is Subaruable but not crossover SUV friendly. Couldn't get a 2WD Hyundai Tucson (6.8" clearance) more than .3 miles past Angel of Shavano CG due to a steepish section with ruts and loose rocks that I couldn't keep traction on. I did see a Lexus RX350 about .75 below the trailhead. YMMV with better driving/tires.

Info: Road has a couple of interesting obstacles. Past the maintained section of road, things get super rocky. I'd be hesitant to take a standard SUV (i.e., 7.3" clearance). Probably not impossible, but plenty of opportunities to hit components in the undercarriage. (For comparison, definitely more rough than the Stevens Gulch Rd to Grays/Torreys in a few spots.)
