10/23/2021 Posted On: 10/24/2021 By: Reg0928 Info: Gate still open and road is totally snow free (for now). Bathroom is locked
6/1/2021 Posted On: 6/2/2021 By: gpeoples Info: As of May 27th, the Cordova Pass is totally clear and snow free. Easy 2WD road (Class1 etc). The West Peak Trail for West Spanish Peak does have some snow drifts in the trees, but you can get through without flotation and no need for yaktraks etc. The last 800 feet or more to the summit has snow, but I was able to boot step it all the way to the summit and enjoy a few glissades on return. | 3 |

5/16/2021 Posted On: 5/17/2021 By: supranihilest Info: Drove in from the west. There's still mud and snow on the road but it isn't of any consequence. 2WD accessible.
9/12/2020 Posted On: 9/12/2020 By: jtdavis Info: Dry the entire way
5/3/2020 Posted On: 5/3/2020 By: angry Info: Dry, easy 2wd.
11/16/2019 Posted On: 11/16/2019 By: BobbyFinn Info: Road is open from highway 12 to Cordova Pass. Once off 12, expect a mix of dirt/mud and snowy/icy. Road is well packed down and AWD hould be sufficient. You might get by with 2wd, but there are some icy areas that could cause problems.
10/16/2019 Posted On: 10/16/2019 By: HikesInGeologicTime Info: The last mile and change requires a little attention, as there are a few large-ish potholes that are hard to see in shade and would be unpleasant to run through in a lower-clearance vehicle, but for the most part, this is smoother driving than some sections of I-25.
6/9/2019 Posted On: 6/9/2019 By: Greenhouseguy Info: Drove up 6/9/19 to do West Spanish Peak, and saw 2WD cars driving over the pass. There is some snow beside the road, but no snow left in the road. Some of the camp sites are still sloppy, as was the trail. | 2 |

5/9/2018 Posted On: 5/9/2018 By: Trotter Info: Road is 100% clear of snow. Trailhead is still missing pay envelopes and signs, but there was a ranger guy setting out trashcans and signage today... Also, there is two ways to this TH. The cordova pass road goes both towards Cuchara (west side) and Aguilar (east side). The Cuchara way gets you onto pavement much faster, but the Aguilar way goes through the famous arches made by the WPA in the 1930s. Both ways are rough dirt roads, but very passable in 2WD cars, just have to go slow in a few spots.
4/15/2018 Posted On: 4/15/2018 By: RWinters Info: Road is passable for 4wd. Two miles from the pass there is snow halfway across the road intermittently and is deeply rutted. AWD with higher clearance could make it. When frozen the road is much easier. It should melt fairly quickly and conditions improve in the next few days.
11/26/2017 Posted On: 11/26/2017 By: ma1919 Info: From Cucharas Pass, the road is mostly covered in packed snow for the last 2.5 miles or so to the trailhead (above about 10,600'), with some sporadic snow below that. The snow definitely softened up in the afternoon, but any car should be able to make it with careful driving. The trailhead area itself is completely clear and dry. The restroom at the trailhead is locked and the fee envelopes seem to have been put away for the season.
11/25/2017 Posted On: 11/25/2017 By: mikemalick Info: Road only has a few stretches of snow down low. Around 10,600' it becomes pretty consistent till shortly before the TH. Any vehicle should have no issues getting to the TH.
11/18/2017 Posted On: 11/20/2017 By: Chicago Transplant Info: Open and passable, broke trail through 2-4" of snow in Subaru Outback on Saturday, several others came up later and the road had a good tracked out tire trench on the way down. Based on other roads in the area Sunday, which melted out partially throughout the day, I would not be surprised if this one also had some additional melting.
12/7/2012 Posted On: 12/8/2012 By: Dad Mike Info: Approached this TH from Cuchara Pass. Just a light layer of snow in limited areas. Trailhead could be reached in any vehicle.
12/1/2012 Posted On: 12/1/2012 By: CarpeDM Info: Easy 2wd accessible. There were occasional tiny bits of packed snow. The bathroom was locked. The fee station had no envelopes, so we did not pay and suffered no consequences from that. |
