6/25/2024 Posted On: 6/25/2024 By: mijoflynn Info: Lots of people at the TH today, so maybe this isn't news: the sinkhole on CR2 has been fixed and the road is open; no longer any need to use the alternate route to Iowa Gulch.
6/15/2024 Posted On: 6/15/2024 By: jts26 Info: Mostly snow free on the roads to TH, TH itself is clear. Note, CR 2 is still closed, but I took 2B and it was easily Subaru-able
5/23/2024 Posted On: 5/23/2024 By: screeman57 Info: CR 2 is closed at the Yak tunnel due to another subsidence in the road. But you can still access 2B by going east up 5th street (CR1). Drive .75 mi past the Mineral Belt bridge and take a right on 2A. After a mile you'll connect to CR2. 2B is about a other 2 miles up the road | 2 |

10/9/2023 Posted On: 10/9/2023 By: Kluge Info: Road is open all the way! 2B is a little rough and rocky but took it slow and made it fine in a Toyota Sienna with very little clearance. | 2 |

8/27/2023 Posted On: 8/27/2023 By: aholle88 Info: Still closed. Use the bypass. Just posting so no jackholes go and blame poor Bill again for not keeping this updated every 5 minutes Ran from my house up to top and back, the gate was vandalized again but rest assured, road is closed. Lower part of trail is a bit wet with the recent rains but theres enough rocks to keep the feets mostly dry. | 2 |

8/24/2023 Posted On: 9/7/2023 By: Strider29 Info: Standard route remains closed, but apparently you can drive around the blockades per two people I talked to on the trail (don't do that). The alternate route is bumpy and tedious, but workable in anything with a bit of clearance (don't think I'd do it in a sedan). Directions from Silver Drive/Route 24: o Turn onto Co 6 near Ryan's Performance Motors o At 0.5mi Turn right onto Co 6D o At 1.4 mi Co 6D turns slightly right and becomes Co Rt 6A o Stay left at the powerlines (do not take the route that follows them) o At 4.5 mi turn left onto Co 2 o 243 ft Turn left to stay on Co 2 o 4.8 mi turn right onto Co 2B o At 8.0 mi Iowa Gulch TH will be on the right Takes about an hour from Leadville.
8/19/2023 Posted On: 8/19/2023 By: awjeter Info: **Easy work around for the road closure.** On the south side of leadville take CR 6 towards the landfill. About 1/2 mile in, just past the trout and gun club driveway, take a right on CR 6D. This road is good, albeit rough, 4wd not required, but decent clearance and some experience is. Continue on until the road reaches a tailing pond with a gate. There are two porta johns here as well. The road curves to the left and then splits off to the left. Take this left turn up the the hill. After about 100 yards, the road hits a paved road. Take a left here and then take your next right onto CR 2B. This is dirt and rocky, but very wide and not as rough as CR 6D. The road ends at an old mine and large gravel field. If you reach this you have gone too far. go back down an bit and look for the parking area. The signs are gone, so in the dark, it may take a little searching.

8/11/2023 Posted On: 9/2/2023 By: awjeter Info: road closure work around! soutn side of Leadvile, take state road 6 towards the landfill. Just past the rod and gun club, take a right on road 6D. This is a little rough, but doable in a 2wd with decent clearance. Stay on this road until you reach Black Cloud Tailings Pond. There is a gate here off to the righ and two porta jons. the road curves left. After the curve, take a left turn up the hill. after about 100 yards it will hit pavement. Take a left on the pavement and then take the next dirt road to your right. This is road 2B. It is dirt, but much wider and easier than 6D. This will take you all the way to the trailhead. The trail head sign is missing, so look for a wide spot in the road for parking before you reach the gian rockpile at the end. | 1 |
