9/2/2024 Posted On: 9/2/2024 By: HikesInGeologicTime Info: Still Suburuable with very careful driving for the moment. The large ditch/rut mentioned in the 8/1 update about .25 mi below the TH is the crux move, most easily navigable by staying as far to the left as possible on the way up and the right going down. While I did see a couple vehicles with lower ground clearance at the TH, I was relieved to have 8.7 inches and AWD.
8/25/2024 Posted On: 8/25/2024 By: Cruiser Info: Spent the night at the th last night for a quick trip up Torreys this morning and when we returned around noon we found the Clear Creek sheriff writing a whole bunch of tickets to folks who parked their cars along the road just outside of the trailhead parking area. | 1 |

8/3/2024 Posted On: 8/3/2024 By: walks_a_lot Info: Ticketing and towing operations are currently in effect at the Grays & Torreys Trailhead. This morning parked cars stretched non-stop for 1.5 miles beyond the upper (summer) trailhead through the clearly defined private property. The Clear Creek County Sheriffs office dispatched several officers to the Grays & Torreys Trailhead to ticket and tow illegally parked vehicles. | 1 |

7/12/2024 Posted On: 7/15/2024 By: darkhelmet1983 Info: As per earlier reports the road is pretty bad. The worst of the at least a dozen times I've driven it over the last 20 years! Rough in general with several places where potholes and washouted out areas would make it tough for non AWD vehicles and the big washout near the TH is quite nasty unless taking a far right (on the way up) line. My Cherokee trailhawk had no problem, though I didn't want to spin tires and make any of the places worse so I used 4wd low for portions and even the locker for the worst washout. It also made it easier in the dark and I didn't care to weave all over to always take the easiest way. Pictures of the bad washout don't do it justice, though there were a couple sedans at the TH.
7/11/2024 Posted On: 7/11/2024 By: eldoce Info: Road is definitely worse than the last time I was up it in 2020. A few relatively minor ruts on the way up and bumpy as expected, but within maybe .5 mi of the TH there is a NASTY rut/washout, maybe a foot wide and 8 deep. Made it through OK going up in a Subaru Forester. Coming down it looked like someone had to do some rock stacking to get through. Was up on 3 wheels for a sec. Someone braver than I made it to the TH in a Subaru Legacy though. | 2 |

7/3/2024 Posted On: 7/3/2024 By: stillworld Info: Summer conditions at & leading up to the trailhead. The road up to the summer trailhead is a bit rough, clearance will be needed. I made it up with no issues in a Crosstrek, drive slow
6/29/2024 Posted On: 6/30/2024 By: IHikeLikeAGirl Info: Road isn't bad. Couple spots where decent clearance and careful driving is warranted. My 2 cents on the parking deal. If able, I recommend driving up the afternoon/night before and either car camp or use a dispersed spot beyond the parking lot. 1. It's a beautiful setting. 2. You can have a leisurely morning 3. The creek provides a soothing background noise. 4. Far less (but still have them) cars driving by and banging doors I arrived Fri, 7/28 at 4:15p, 4 cars at TH. Had my pick of dispersed camping spots, grabbed one 0.1 mi beyond the outhouse. Mostly flat, under a lg pondo, room for 3-4 cars (single file), 39.6600850, -105.7838100. Several more people showed up from 5p on...turns out I'm not the only one with this ingenious idea.... Unsure how early the lot filled up (I was snoozin'), probably around 3a. On our drive out, cars lined the road above and below the upper lot. Yes, many ignored the, No Parking signs.... | 2 |

6/26/2024 Posted On: 6/26/2024 By: walks_a_lot Info: Just a heads up....The Clear Creek County Sheriff's Office and Mountain Recovery have both been in Stevens Gulch this week enforcing parking and towing some vehicles. People seem to be parking along the road once the upper (summer) lot is full and on the private property in Stevens Gulch even though the area is well signed. | 1 |

6/25/2024 Posted On: 4/1/2025 By: jb_aiden Info: Made it to the trailhead in a Prius, no problems. One divot near the parking area was difficult though. Just make sure to have proper tires.
6/5/2024 Posted On: 6/5/2024 By: Carl Info: Summer trailhead 3 miles up from I 70 is accessible for the season. Saw a Porsche Cayenne, a minivan, and a Subaru outback there today.
5/25/2024 Posted On: 5/25/2024 By: fakejox Info: Road is still intermittently snow covered. Most cars pulled off approximately ~0.7 miles below the summer trailhead, just before the first major avalanche chute off the north face of Kelso Mountain. A few high clearance vehicles attempted to drive past this point but at least one bottomed out before reaching the summer trailhead.
5/23/2024 Posted On: 5/23/2024 By: Carl Info: Road is drivable for 2 of the 3 miles to the summer trailhead, beyond that it's mostly snow covered. A few snow drifts around the 1.3 mile mark warrant high clearance and good tires. Parking at 2 miles is quite limited and that area is mostly private property. | 1 |

5/22/2024 Posted On: 5/22/2024 By: 9patrickmurphy Info: Road is clear of snow to the Grizzly Gulch split. Some snow drifts up from there, but melting fast. I parked next to a sedan at the Grizzly Gulch split, so pretty much any car can get there right now. No ticket on the windshield upon my return, not sure when Clear Creek County will start doing their thing. |
