6/14/2008 Posted On: 6/14/2008 By: J2TheZ Info: The road is open and clear to the summer trailhead. It is easily passable by any vehicle.
6/3/2008 Posted On: 6/3/2008 By: SmoothCruX Info: Trail head open til about 11700. Road gets a little tight with snow drift but should be passable in a few days.
3/6/2008 Posted On: 3/6/2008 By: J2TheZ Info: The road up to the normal road closure is full of snow but still passable for cars with good snow tires or 4wd.
2/19/2008 Posted On: 2/19/2008 By: J2TheZ Info: Lake county road 2 is open and in good shape all the way to the split by the mine. The road up to Sherman however is closed immediately after the split. Add ~3 miles one-way to start here.
2/11/2008 Posted On: 2/11/2008 By: Chicago Transplant Info: The road to the winter trailhead is a little snowier than usual right now. Looks like with all the recent snows this one has been low on the priority list. The road has a nice snowpacked middle, but the sides of the road are soft and have some drifts. 4WD recommended until the next time the plows get through.
6/11/2007 Posted On: 6/11/2007 By: dixonallred Info: Road is clear all the way up.
5/1/2007 Posted On: 5/1/2007 By: Pappy Info: With 4WD and high clearance you can motor up 1 mile up dirt (snow) road leading to trailhead.
1/17/2007 Posted On: 1/17/2007 By: BillMiddlebrook Info: Plowed closure at the intersection 3 miles below the trailhead.
9/24/2006 Posted On: 9/24/2006 By: Chicago Transplant Info: Was able to drive all the way to Lower Iowa Gulch today (9/24/06), there is a nice rut the whole way. A little icy in places and you definitely will want 4WD and decent clearance, the ruts are a solid foot deep in most places. Of course if it warms up it might melt out again anyway!
8/9/2006 Posted On: 8/9/2006 By: colojp75 Info: Is there camping available at this trailhead? I ask because I need to get an early start with my 2 little ones...any help would be appreciated
6/11/2006 Posted On: 6/11/2006 By: mhbare Info: Up there today (6/11) and the road is clear all the way. No problems. Got to watch for some fallen rock on the road, but you should be able to get pretty much anthing up the road. The Iowa Gulch trail still has a few snowy spots in the valley, but nothing major. Once your out of the valley the trail is pretty clear. No snowshoes or anything needed.
5/24/2006 Posted On: 5/24/2006 By: rtichota Info: I was up there a couple days ago, and the road was pretty good except for some snow covered areas. The snow covered most of the road in some places so one side would be on the dirt and the other would be on the snow. I drive a dodge dakota and had no problem, but not for the faint of heart, that snow gets pretty exciting after its turned to slush in the afternoon.
5/8/2006 Posted On: 5/8/2006 By: swturner Info: Plenty of snow (several feet) still on the road. Had to park about a mile from trailhead. It will be sometime before the snow melts out. Walking up the road was no problem in the morning but there was pleny of post holing on the way back.
5/9/2005 Posted On: 5/9/2005 By: mshepard Info: I checked this out on Sunday 5/8 and the snow had melted so that you could go about a mile past winter closure. |
