Missouri Gulch Trailhead

Info: Road is in fantastic shape, some minor washboarding but that’s it. Many ski area parking lots are worse than this road (A-Basin I’m looking at you…) Toilet is a pleasant potty: clean, doesn’t smell, lots of hand sanitizer & toilet paper.

Info: Have rest day between Huron and Miss-Belf-Ox so shoveling 2-3 parking spots away of loop at TH. The regular winter plowing ending at turnaround 3.2 miles below Missouri.

Info: The road is pretty well packed down to the trailhead. I made it with no issues in a Subaru. The snow is deep in the trailhead parking lot so stick to where others have already driven.

Info: Road is snow covered, but lots of vehicle tracks. Some small sections of ice, but 4WD/AWD should be fine. I'm in an old tacoma. Trailhead parking lot is a little trickier, but still only about 8" of snow and very doable.

Info: The road up here is actually pretty good, you could probably get a strech limo to the trailhead if you were careful. The road was pretty muddy on the way back but I was never worried about getting stuck. At least one section of the road was being graded when I left so the road is probably even better now.

Info: Lot about a quarter full at 7am on Tuesday. Road gets worse about 3 miles from trailhead, and there is a sign saying that 2WD ruins the road. While my 3.5" clearance car did make it all the way without scraping bottom, anything lower will not make it. I think this trailhead rating should be upgraded to rough 2WD. Bathroom was out of TP, so bring your own!

Info: At 4am the parking lot was about half full. The road is good until the last 3 miles, that is where it gets a little bumpy but any car can make it. The restroom was clean and very well stocked so kudos to the person who does that. The hand sanitizer right outside of the restroom was full too.

Info: Road 390 is in good shape. Some ruts and washboard, but nothing any car can't get around. The campground at Clear Creek Res wasn't full even through the weekend, and we saw some dispersed campers farther up the road. On Friday parking was 3/4 full around sunrise.

Info: Still drivable to the Missouri Gulch trailhead. 4WD probably not required but nice to have, clearance to drive up the ruts required. Bathroom is locked. Didn't drive further up towards Winfield but I imagine the road is worse beyond Missouri Gulch.

Info: Snow packed to the trailhead. Most vehicles can make it with okay clearance and good tires. The road has about 8 inches of unpacked snow (at deepest) up to this point, but it's packed down in the middle of the road by other cars. Beyond Missouri Gulch the snow gets deeper and is less traveled. Started to get pretty messy as I approached Sheep Gulch so I turned around. Had to do some shoveling / tree branch traction to make the turn. Ran into two other vehicles, I spoke to one of the drivers and they said they were on the way back from doing Huron, so I'm guessing they made it all the way to Winfield. 4Runner / Jeep / Off Road capable vehicle type stuff.

Info: Weather incoming so this will likely be useless before I'm finished typing but here goes. The 7 bumpy dirt miles of CR390 to the TH (and the 5 beyond it to Winfield) are mostly clear and dry - just a few patches of snow and slush to keep you on your toes. Low clearance is fine, even passable with 2WD (at least until it snows today). Shared TH parking with just one other vehicle all day, and saw nary a soul on the trail. Plenty of dispersed camping avail for the hearty outdoorsfolk.

Info: As of 9/24/2023, the road up to the trailhead is in great condition. Any 2wd car can make it up here, there is no rutting and very few small bumps. Better than most gravel driveways.

Info: CR 390 is generally in good shape. A few sections of potholes, small rocks & washboard, but should be doable for 2WD. I would classify as "rough 2WD." But, nothing major that would cause someone to turnaround. Road is in similar condition for the 4 miles past Missouri Gulch to Winfield, where the AWD Road starts.

Info: Great camping spots in national forest approximately 2 miles from the trailhead. Dirt road was a bit washboardy but totally 2wd doable. Plenty of TP in trailhead bathroom which was pleasantly clean.
