6/28/2025 Route: North Ridge and Southeast Ridge Posted On: 6/30/2025, By: supranihilest Info: The ridge from Grizzly looks like it would go without too much trouble, but a short section involved a blind drop onto a knife edge below. We looked for bypasses and there aren't any. The ridge might go in the opposite direction, from "North Point" to Grizzly, but the cost of a mistake in this section is death. We instead dropped down a few hundred feet to some large ledges below the ridge, then made an up and climber's left trending scramble up Class 3 rock and grass. This looked highly improbable and I was sure it wouldn't go, but it wasn't that bad. Extremely exposed, but the rock was a lot more solid than expected. This took us past the nasty section of ridge to the summit pitch, which was just Class 2 dinner plates. We descended the southeast ridge which started off easy enough before narrowing and eventually reaching an exceptionally rotten, knife edge-like section. This whole mountain is rotten but this section was the kind of thing that you look at funny and it collapses. We butt scooted 20-30 feet down incredibly steep talus/scree/dirt, being very careful not to slip, which might send one into a rather nasty fall. The rock here is also very sharp - I cut the back of my hand open just grazing it accidentally. Once we'd gone down a little bit we carefully scrambled under the super rotten section and back to the ridge, whereupon no more difficulties were found. At a broad saddle a little further down we descended southwest and picked our way through willows and along the edge of the rock glacier back into the forest where we picked up the ascent trail from the morning. |

9/20/2024 Route: SE Ridge Posted On: 9/20/2024, By: ericahlstedt Info: This makes for a fun ridge walk and a nice loop to connect with Grizzly B. Gaining the long SE ridge to the summit is quite loose and steep, but doesn't last long and then its super mellow and scenic to the summit. If you are up for a single class 4 move and some class 3, continuing on to Grizzly Peak makes for a nice loop and half day scramble. Photo is from Grizzly Peak and shows the long SE ridge of North Point and the connecting knife edge ridge. |
