10/10/2026 Route: From South Massive Posted On: 10/10/2026, By: CaptainSuburbia Info: I went up the Mt Massive Southwest Slopes route for this which was completely dry below 14,000. East Slopes is still closed. Lots of heavy equipment there. I left the the Southwest Slopes route at 13,700 and sidehilled over to the Massive-South Massive saddle and took the ridge from there going over South Massive. Lingering snow above 14,000 feet and north faces. Most was avoidable or inconsequential. Class 2 ridge. It was a lot further down than it looked. Register is full if someone wants to take up a new one. |

9/22/2026 Route: via Massive and South Massive Posted On: 9/23/2026, By: SnowAlien Info: Despite the recent moisture, the East slopes route and TH parking are still closed due to the Willow fire until September 30th, so I took the SW ridge route. Parked about half a mile before the TH as the road deteriorated in a few spots. Awesome 14er trail (3k ft vertical staircase) took me just below the summit of Mt Massive. From there I traversed over South Massive and over to South South Massive. The weather was moving in, so I bailed down the S/SW slopes. Some minor bushwhacking below the treeline, but manageable. Popped on the road just below the upper TH and hiked down to the car. 4,400 ft and ~8 miles. A trace of snow on the north faces overnight. |
