Route: El Diente-Wilson Ridge Direct Traverse
Posted On: 9/10/2023, By: daway8
Info: Can confirm that Pin Point from the El Diente side is class 5 - seemed like maybe low to mid class 5. Very solid but very exposed - a short but invigorating little climb! It's mostly a stair step type feature but with some very large steps at times (think staircase where you sometimes have to use your arms to get up the next step). From the Wilson side it is definitely easier but still should probably be considered class 4 (maybe if you really worked at it you might stitch together a slightly easier line). Overall a wonderfully fun little 14er sub-summit that is a splendid addition to the list of 74 now that Sunlight Spire has dropped off.

Route: Via Kilpacker
Posted On: 7/11/2023, By: HikesInGeologicTime
Info: (Did not attempt myself; these are descriptions/pics from a friend, TG, who successfully summited.) Kilpacker TH Road and TH normal, no snow. Kilpacker trail, El D, Wilson (Mt.) Skeeter Breeders (standing water) at stream crossings. Multiple trees and widowmakers on trail. Main creek crossing is off to left. Snow crossings after trail switches to talus. Mostly all snow for upper basin. Snow quality, depth, and supportiveness varies. Bring crampons, ice axe, gaiters, footwear for lots of wet snow, extra socks. El Diente via Kilpacker route is snowed in still, save for parts along ridge. Expect snow crossing any gulley on the traverse. Micro-spikes and quick changes (threading chest strap through them to carry) helpful. Ribs snow-free. Pin Point is snow free and not class 3. Rap anchors are faded webbing. Navajo Basin still has lots of snow, as do the north slopes.
