Info: Summer conditions. There were cornices hanging around the ridges, but the ridges themselves were dry. We didn't find a good way to cross the South Fork Clear Creek without a deep, cold crossing to ensure we were wide awake. We ended up gaining the ridge at the saddle between Winfield and Virginia, and that route went relatively painlessly after the creek crossing. The cornice on the north side of the ridge to the east of 13258 South did block some options for descending back to the north, but we were able to find an OK descent route. The initial descent gully was a little unpleasant, and there were some willows/marsh on the way back to the Continental Divide Trail, but it wasn't bad at all.

Route: North Fork Clear Creek

Info: Just climbed the Winfield/Virginias/Sheep Rock group - plus Grizzly - today from the North Fork Clear Creek trail. After reading a bit about this group, I didn't find info from anyone using a route in this drainage. Turns out it goes! Pretty great too. Followed the trail to its non-descript end then continued to the end of the drainage, where a moderate grass ramp led to the saddle south of Sheep Rock. From there, following the ridge was straightforward, with only a few easy (and very unnecessary) Class 3 bits. Leaving Winfield, using the zig-zag old road system and bushwacking the few hundred vertical felt much better on the descent than I imagined for the climb. Recommend these peaks and especially this route to anyone interested in 13er solitude! Have fun!

Route: Via Winfield, through to 13253

Info: 99.17% dry. ;) Some snow on west and north slopes of surrounding peaks, but ridge line from Winfield Peak through 13253 was dry, with a couple of teensy, nonhindering, patches of snow. BTW, if you love tundra ridge runs, this is not that. Rock, boulders, rock, and more rock fall between you and each peak (see Feinstein's TR). It is tedious.
