Route: Twin Peaks B Saddle Descent after Rinker Peak
Posted On: 9/9/2024, By: taranichols_02
Info: When reading the options on the route, for option #2: "2. After getting both Twin Peak Summits, keep descending the NE ridge of Twin Peaks all the way down to where the NE ridge intersects the Willis Gulch Trail ~1mi from the TH. Common adjectives used in the TR's where they descended this NE ridge are "suck", "draining", "tiring", "ankle roll" "felt like it took forever" and "loose"." The descent on the uploaded GPX would then be option #3, and I would say it was similar to option 2. I wouldn't recommend it; everything was loose, it took over an hour to get down, and every time you slip you land on thistles. My two cents: back track and descend the way you came up for Rinker.

Info: The descent from the saddle is fast and easy breezy lemon squeezy.

Info: Dry across the ridge. No register. Descended via the saddle between B and B NE. Steep but pretty manageable to get down to the excellent trail back out.

Info: I agree with supranihilest, this is not a great way to come down, it was dry for us but loose as hell, no soft sponge grass, we slide down loose dirt most of the way, took us 1hr from the summit to the willis trail at the bottom. Just go back to the saddle/slope up to Rinker it will be much nicer to come down. We did not take the ridge.

Info: From Rinker Peak it's about 30 minutes or so to the southern, higher Twin Peak. The route is mostly talus, and from the Rinker/Twin saddle there are a couple of bumps to be bypassed but no scrambling at all. The best descent is to return via Rinker's south slopes; the Twin Peaks saddle gully descent is terrible, very steep and incredibly loose. I wore microspikes down the gully due to how loose it was. Conditions on this route likely changed significantly between my summit and now; it was snowing and blowing hard and harder while I was up there and there's likely been a decent amount of accumulation up high.

Info: Got snow on August 29 while I was hiking there as well as later that evening, but the snow was mostly gone the following afternoon.
