Route: South Ridge from Tincup Pass & St. Elmo

Info: Chalk Creek Drive to St. Elmo is plowed, and I parked down the road from the Tincup Pass Road. Tincup Pass Road is not maintained but is used by snowmobilers and I was able to easily hike the entire road. About four miles in I switched to snowshoes which helped, but they were by no means necessary. Once I put them on I wore them all the way to the summit ridge of "Tincup Peak" where I went back to boots. Above treeline is largely windblown but there's still some large snowfields, which are very posthole-y, nothing show stopping though. The summit ridge is drier on its western margin and the summit cairn/windbreak is full of snow, so don't expect a shelter from the wind. If only doing "Tincup Peak" return to the pass, otherwise continue on to other peaks.

Info: Road mostly dry to St Elmo. Road from St Elmo snowpacked from the start, so I parked and walked all of it. Road had several sustained icy sections. My way was made much easier by the continuous wheel tracks. The road mostly dried up before reaching the pass. Likewise, the mountain itself was mostly dry, but the trail from Tin Cup Pass climbing a bit steeply to the east was distinguished as a line of snow at its start. From the top of that point, the ridge running north held one brief section of snow that could not be easily avoided, then a longer section that I paralleled on some rocks. Summit cairn held packed snow, which I knocked aside in the vain search for a register.
